Will Cresswell went 3 for 5 with a home run, a double and seven RBI, but it wasn’t enough as Washington State lost to host New Mexico 24-14 on Saturday afternoon.

A day after tallying 17 hits in a 10-9 loss to the Lobos, the Cougars offense pounded out 16 more hits Saturday.

Luke Thiele went 3 for 4 with three runs scored, and Max Hartman, Ryan Skjonsby, Logan Johnstone and Gavin Roy had two hits each for the Cougars (13-21, 6-8 MWC).

COLLEGE BASEBALL

• UCLA broke open a tied game with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and the 10th-ranked Bruins beat visiting Washington 7-3.

Casen Taggart went 2 for 3 with a home run and is now hitting .343 on the season. Sam DeCarlo also homered for the Huskies (18-18, 9-5 Big Ten), who saw their six-game win streak come to an end.

• Seattle U (12-22, 3-8 WAC) fell to host Sacramento State 7-6 on a walkoff double from Matt Masciangelo in the bottom of the 11th inning.

MINOR BASEBALL

Samad Taylor hit a walkoff home run, his second homer of the game, to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Tacoma Rainiers (6-8) to a 10-9 win over visiting Sacramento.

Jurrangelo Cijntje tossed three scoreless innings, allowing one hit while striking out four and walking two as Everett (2-6) fell to Hillsboro 3-2.

SOFTBALL

• UCLA jumped out to a four-run lead after the first inning, and the No. 8 Bruins sailed to a 7-2 win over visiting Washington.

Sophi Mazzola hit a two-run home run, one of just three hits for the Huskies (29-11, 7-4 Big Ten).

Jada Cooper hit a walkoff RBI double in the bottom of the eighth inning as Grand Canyon edged Seattle U 3-2 to complete the series sweep.

Berkley Vance allowed three runs, one earned, in 7 2/3 gritty innings for the Redhawks (23-17, 8-7 WAC). Vance threw 133 pitches.

• Washington State’s Sam Renner shot an even-par 72 and sits in a tie for 12th place at 1 under, three shots back of the leaders after the second round of the El Macero Classic in Davis, Calif.

TENNIS

• The Washington women (17-2, 4-2 WCC) swept host Michigan State 4-0.

• The Washington State women (14-7, 4-2 WCC) topped host Portland 4-2.

BEACH VOLLEYBALL

• Washington beat No. 19 Florida International 5-0 and followed with a 5-0 win over Oregon to close out the Husky Invitational at Alki Beach.

HOCKEY

Julius Miettinen scored in overtime to lead Everett to a 4-3 win over visiting Portland and the Silvertips took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference semifinal series.
