Emoni Bush, Audra Wilmes and Julia Hunt each had 12 kills and the Washington volleyball team stayed perfect on the season with a 23-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-17 win over Pepperdine on Friday in Long Beach, Calif.
Lauren Bays led the Huskies with 17 digs, Wilmes had 12 digs and Bush added 10.
UW had to make some lineup adjustments, as Kierstyn Barton and Kiune Fletcher were both unavailable, and Molly Wilson stepped up and responded with a season-high 37 assists plus 10 digs, four aces, three blocks and two kills.
The match was the final nonconference contest for Washington (10-0), which opens Big Ten play with a home match against Indiana on Sept. 27. The Huskies will host Illinois the following night.
OTHER VOLLEYBALL
• Katy Ryan had 12 kills and two blocks, but Washington State (5-4) lost to host Long Beach State 25-20, 25-14, 25-11.
• Arianna Bilby had 10 kills and seven digs in Seattle U’s (1-7) 25-16, 25-17, 25-17 loss to Saint Mary’s at the USF Challenge in Morgana, Calif.
SOCCER
• Peter Kingston and Nick O’Brien scored and the host Washington men (4-2-3, 1-1-1 Big Ten) beat No. 20 Northwestern 2-0 for their first league win.
HOCKEY
• Tyler Thorpe scored in overtime as the host Vancouver Giants rallied to beat the Seattle Thunderbirds in the WHL season opener for both teams.
Cameron Schmidt scored twice and Aaron Obobaifo added a goal in a three-goal third period for the Giants.
Colton Gerrior had two goals and Kazden Mathies also scored for the Thunderbirds.
