The Huskies ran into a defense they couldn’t solve and an offense they couldn’t hold down in a 34-13 loss to Michigan in Monday’s national championship game.
While it was a disappointing ending to a season that ended in near-perfection, it’s clear UW fans following this team all year won’t soon forget the 14 wins that came before this lone defeat.
Here’s what people are saying about the Huskies’ title-game loss, and what was perhaps a fitting official end to the Pac-12 conference as we know it.

Bummer to end this way—and a well deserved win for Michigan—but this was probably the most fun Washington team of my lifetime. Absolute thrill ride of a season.

Really tough holding call after some of the ones they missed for Michigan. #NationalChampionship

Huskies were a tick (or more) off all night — especially Penix —and squandered the chances they had to make a run. Sad end to a fantastic season.

Well that's it for Pac-12 football huh? Still hard to fathom…

Bad news: A crushing loss in the national title game for Huskies
— Larry Stone (@StoneLarry) January 9, 2024
Good news: No post-game cigars in the locker room
Sucks man. Didn’t think the offense was gonna be the reason why UW lost.

Helluva season and I’m gonna miss the Penix era so damn much.
Incredible team. Insane memories we will never forget.
Very grateful we got to enjoy the ride.
just inexcusably bad, especially after the hold that completely changed the last drive for UW. https://t.co/fKpdCCJevI

That holding penalty may have cost UW 7 points and may have been a 14 point swing. Which may be the difference in the game.

And IMO the refs missed a few offensive holds by Michigan in the 1st half on long runs.
Every call/no call impacted this gm. https://t.co/It69OuKuQz
I don’t get to be a fan very often but that was one night I I won’t ever forget. So many hugs w/friends & strangers alike.

The Huskies had multiple chances in the 3rd quarter but…
