Quarterback questions: Both teams feature inexperienced quarterbacks. Finley will be making his first start for Boise State, and as of Thursday evening the Huskies hadn’t announced a starter. It’s been widely speculated that Jake Browning, a freshman, had won the competition with Jeff Lindquist and K.J. Carta-Samuels.

On the line: The Huskies’ offensive line also is thin on experience, with just 15 combined starts between the 16 active linemen on the roster. Boise State’s defensive line, meanwhile, features seven seniors and two juniors. One of those seniors is Tutulupeatau Mataele, a 27-year-old who is expected to start after serving an NCAA-ordered suspension all of last season.

Feeling blue: This will be the first time Boise State has opened a season on its home blue turf since defeating Oregon, 19-8, on Sept. 3, 2009. The Broncos have won 14 games in a row at home, and they have never lost a home game on a Friday night, going 12-0.

Something special: Boise State’s last defeat at home came against San Diego State, 21-19, on Nov 3, 2012. In that game, San Diego State returned a kickoff for a touchdown and scored another touchdown off a blocked punt. The Huskies, with Budda Baker taking over as the primary kick returner and Dante Pettis continuing as the punt returner, might need some similar magic on special teams to pull off an upset.

Prediction: Boise State 24, Washington 17.
