D FOR DORMANT: There are 130 teams in major-college football. UCLA ranks 112th or worse several major defensive categories — and dead last in rushing defense. Here are the national rankings for UCLA’s defense:

Rushing defense: 130th (303.4 yards)
Yards per rush: 129th (6.1 per carry)

Washington coach Chris Petersen will tell you, as he did again this week, that “stats are for losers.” Maybe so. But there’s no denying the trend this season for the Bruins — they are vulnerable, and particularly so against the run.  The Huskies, of course, would love to get Myles Gaskin, Lavon Coleman, Salvon Ahmed and the run game going after it was held to 91 yards on 31 attempts in their loss at Arizona State two weeks ago.

DAYLIGHT: For the first time this season, the Huskies will have a kickoff before 5 o’clock, and there might be no one happier about that than Petersen. “It will be a beautiful day walking out of that tunnel at that time and seeing those Husky fans there. And I hope every one of them is smiling as big as I am,” he said. There was, of course, much hubbub earlier this month when Petersen voiced his frustration with late kickoffs, which led to some backlash from ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit and others. Enjoy the daylight while it lasts: The Huskies’ home game vs. Oregon next week could be another after-dark start. The kickoff for that game has not been announced, but two of the three options are night games (7 p.m. or 7:45 p.m.). That time will be announced on Sunday. Less than a week after the Oregon game, UW is back on the road for a Friday-night game at Stanford.

PREDICTION: Huskies 34, UCLA 20.
