Last meeting: Washington hammered Oregon 70-21 in a watershed victory that ended a 12-game losing streak to the Ducks. Huskies QB Jake Browning threw for 304 yards and a school-record six touchdowns.

Coach: Willie Taggart, 41, replaced Mark Helfrich after a four-year stint at South Florida where he was 24-25, including 10-2 last year. Taggart spent three years (2010-12) at Western Kentucky where he posted a 16-20 record, including a pair of 7-5 seasons in his final two years.

Star players

RB Royce Freeman (5-11, 231, Sr.) is averaging 121.8 rushing yards, fourth in the Pac-12. He has 1,096 yards, 10 touchdowns and averages 6.0 yards per carry. Last year, Freeman gained 50 yards on 11 carries against UW, but he torched the Huskies in two previous meetings. He had 169 yards and 4 TDs as a freshman in 2014 and 138 yards in 2015.

QB Braxton Burmeister (6-1, 205, Fr.) is 1-3 as a starter since replacing sophomore Justin Herbert, who broke his collarbone Sept. 30 during a loss to California. Burmeister averages just 72.3 passing yards as a starter. He’s completing 57.1 percent of his throws and has five interceptions and just 2 TDs. Herbert reportedly could have played last Saturday.

LB Troy Dye (6-4, 225, So.) is second in the Pac-12 with 80 tackles. He also has four sacks.
