Darell Garretson, the Beavers' starting QB, is out for the year with a broken ankle, OSU announced Monday.
Sophomore Marcus McMaryion, Oregon State’s third-string quarterback, will get his first start of the season against No. 5 Washington at Husky Stadium on Saturday, OSU coach Gary Andersen announced Monday.
The Beavers (2-4, 1-2 Pac-12) lost starting quarterback Darell Garretson to a broken ankle in their loss to Utah on Saturday. Backup QB Conor Blount was also injured in the game.
McMaryion was a part-time starter for Oregon State last season. He started against the Huskies in Corvallis, completing 8-of-16 passes for 109 yards with one touchdown and one interception in UW’s 52-7 victory.
“McMaryion played against us last year, so we’ll have some tape there,” UW coach Chris Petersen said Monday. “And I know when they put him in (against Utah on Saturday) he went right down the field and scored. I say this all the time: We defend systems. Certainly, you’ve got to pay attention to certain guys more than others, but we don’t change our whole preparation based on (one player).”
