Hey, here’s something fun and new for Northwest college football fans to debate (ahem, mind your manners folks).

The Associated Press, which has been ranking the best teams in college football since 1936, on Tuesday revealed its all-time top 100 programs — and the Washington Huskies came in at No. 20.

That put the Huskies third in the Pac-12 behind No. 5 USC and No. 17 UCLA.

The Washington State Cougars are ranked 59th — or 10th in the Pac-12.

The Oregon Ducks, meanwhile, are No. 28.

The AP formula awarded one point for a team’s appearance in the weekly poll, two points for a No. 1 ranking and 10 points for an AP national championship.

The Huskies have appeared in the AP poll 401 total times — 36.36 percent of all polls — and have been ranked No. 1 for 15 weeks (sharing No. 1 once).

UW’s best full decade was the 1990s, when the Huskies appeared in 75.74 percent of the AP polls. Their worst decade was the 1960s, when UW appeared in just 16.67 percent of the polls. (Note that the formula only awards points for AP championships, so UW’s 1991 national championship from the coaches’ poll is not included.)
