It took extra innings and a bases-loaded walk, but the UW softball team came out victorious in a 3-2 win on the road at Eastern Illinois on Thursday. It was the fifth consecutive victory for the Huskies (25-9).

Tia Durst was 2 for 2 and drew the game-winning RBI walk. Giselle Alvarez and Alycia Flores both went 2 for 4.

Starting pitcher Stevie Hansen allowed two runs over 31/3 innings, surrendering three hits and two walks while striking out one. Relivers Sophia Ramuno and Morgan Reimer (who earned the win) each threw 21/3 scoreless innings.

Men’s college golf

• UW is tied for 20th (12-over) and WSU sits tied for 24th (20-over) after the first round of The Goodwin at Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif.

True freshman Jake Foley’s 2-over 72 leads the Huskies, whose five golfers were all within four strokes of each other.

Dylan Burcham leads the Cougars with a 2-over 72.

Men’s College swimming and diving

• Rex Maurer won the first race of Day 2 at the NCAA men’s swimming and diving championships in Federal Way, and his Texas teammate Hubert Kos took the second event as the Longhorns were in first place with 190 points.

Maurer took the 500-yard freestyle in 4:05.35 ahead of teammate Luke Hobson to clinch a 1-2 finish for Texas, which made a big jump atop the team standings.

Kos, an Olympic gold medalist, held off a late surge by Cal’sDestin Lasco in the 200 individual medley with a personal-best time of 1:37.91. It was the same time Lasco won the event last season at the national championships.

Tennessee’s Jordan Crooks became a two-time champion in the 50 freestyle when he finished in 17.91. It was his fifth performance under 18 seconds in the event. His teammate Guilherme Caribe finished third.

Crooks also broke a program record with a 17.82 leadoff split in the 200 freestyle relay to help the Vols win in a meet record 1:12.84.

Indiana senior Quentin Henninger won the 1-meter diving for his first career NCAA title.

College tennis

• The WSU women topped Saint Mary’s 4-0 in Pullman.

• The Seattle women beat Utah Tech 5-2 in Phoenix.

• The Seattle U men lost 4-0 to Cal Poly in Phoenix.
