Storm forward Jordan Horston and guard Nika Mühl will miss the 2025 season due to knee injuries, the team announced.
Both players were injured during the WNBA offseason and placed on the suspended list, which allows Seattle to retain their rights and removes their salaries from the team’s cap and roster limit this season.
In February, Horston tore her ACL while playing for Athletes Unlimited and Mühl tore her ACL playing overseas for the Turkish club Besiktas JK last October.
The Storm had big plans for the 23-year-old Horston this season and considered her a foundational piece to grow alongside their young collection of standouts including Gabby Williams (27 years old), Ezi Magbegor (24) and Dominique Malonga (19).
Since selecting Horston No. 9 overall in the 2023 WNBA draft, she’s averaged 6.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals while making 31 starts in 75 games.
Considering Mühl’s injury occurred six months ago, the Storm didn’t initially rule out her playing in 2025, which led to speculation that she could return at some point during the season.
However, the Storm made moves recently to fill the vacancy created by Mühl’s absence.
Seattle signed veteran guards Lexie Brown, Erica Wheeler and Zia Cooke during free agency. The Storm also drafted guards Serena Sundell, Jordan Hobbs and Madison Conner.
It’s a significant setback for the 23-year-old Mühl, who was taken No. 14 overall in the second round by the Storm in last year’s draft.
As a rookie, the former UConn star appeared in just 16 games and scored her only basket in the regular-season finale. She also had 10 rebounds, seven assists and two steals while averaging 3.4 minutes.
Not including Horston and Mühl, the Storm have 16 players on the roster heading into training camp, which begins April 27.
General manager Talisa Rhea said she expects the team will start the season on May 17 with 11 players, one fewer than the WNBA limit.
