The Storm is quickly picking up free agents it hopes can fill in for three major losses from last season’s WNBA championship team. Yesterday, the team signed Brazilian Olympic guard Iziane Castro Marques, Russian forward Natalia Vodopyanova, Spanish center Eva Montesdeoca and invited former Oregon star Shaquala Williams to training camp.

Marques, a 6-foot shooter, was waived by the Phoenix Mercury in 2003. She’s currently playing for Ekaterinburg in Russia, averaging 18.9 points, 5 rebounds and 3.7 assists.

A former teammate of guard Betty Lennox, Marques could replace Sheri Sam, a free agent who signed with Charlotte this offseason.

Vodopyanova, a mobile 6-5 post, is currently playing with Storm All-Star Sue Bird and former center Kamila Vodichkova in Moscow. Vodopyanova is shooting 48 percent from the field and could be a solid backup for All-Star Lauren Jackson or used inside at the center position, replacing Vodichkova, who signed with Phoenix.

Williams, 5-6, spent five days in Storm training camp last season before being waived. During the offseason she played for the National Women’s Basketball League in Birmingham, Ala., averaging 10.6 points and 3.4 assists in 13 games.

Montesdeoca, 6-3, is averaging 4.8 points and 5.3 rebounds in the FIBA Women’s Europe Cup.

Camp opens April 25. The season opens May 21.
