Easy picks
There’s little debate about who will start for either side Tuesday. MLS rules state the same gameday roster must be used, including those who were on the field at the time play was stopped, unless there’s an injury, transfer or call-up.
For the Sounders, that means Andrew Thomas will be in goal and midfielders Josh Atencio, Obed Vargas and Leo Chu returning to the field. Center back Xavier Arreaga, who was traded last week, will have to be replaced in the starting lineup. That will likely be by Yeimar Gomez Andrade, who was on the bench in March. That leaves one reserve player for Sounders coach Brian Schmetzer to replace.
Stop the streak
Seattle hasn’t played Philly since 2019 due to scheduling and restrictions in 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Union are on a three-match unbeaten streak in the series. The last meeting ended in a 0-0 draw.
Quotable
“It’s one of those moments where you take a loss and you want to get out there as soon as possible,” Thomas said after Saturday’s 2-1 loss against D.C. United at Audi Field. “Getting a game Tuesday is perfect.”
