Will Bruin scored in the sixth minute and Seattle Sounders FC went on to win a preseason friendly against San Diego Loyal SC 1-0 on Saturday night at Lumen Field.
The Sounders played mostly veteran players in the night match in which they outshot San Diego 22-2, including a 10-1 advantage in shots on goal. Raul Ruidiaz led the Sounders with 10 shots, including six on goal.
Seattle also led 7-0 in corner kicks.
Sounders goalkeeper Stefan Frei made one save.
San Diego had enough players to field two lineups. Therefore an afternoon game at Lumen Field went first, fielding a lineup consisting largely of Sounders young guys from the first team as well as Tacoma Defiance and Sounders Academy standouts.
The Sounders also won that match 1-0.
The Rave Green controlled the match from the opening whistle but went into halftime scoreless.
In the second half, Defiance midfielder Reed Baker-Whiting and homegrown player Ethan Dobbelaere each generated dangerous chances from inside the box, but the score remained deadlocked. That changed in the 71st minute as Baker-Whiting whipped in a dangerous cross for Sounders Academy midfielder Juan Alvarez, whose one-time shot filled the bottom corner.
The Sounders open the season Friday against Minnesota United FC, with the match starting at 6:30 p.m. at Lumen Field.
