The MLS Disciplinary Commitee has suspended Seattle’s Chad Marshall and fined the defender an undisclosed amount for “serious foul play that endangered the safety of an opponent” in the 13th minute of his team’s 3-1 win in Colorado last weekend.
The Sounders, remember, host Portland for their first Cascadia Cup match of the season on Sunday at CenturyLink Field. Veteran center back Zach Scott has made just a single start so far this season — in the scoreless draw against FC Dallas — but seems the most likely candidate to slot in alongside Brad Evans as a replacement for the 2014 MLS Defender of the Year.

Stemming from an incident in the same match in Commerce City on Saturday, Rapids midfielder Marcelo Sarvas has been suspended for two games for “violent conduct” in the 40th minute.
Sunday’s match between the Sounders and Timbers at CenturyLink Field is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff and will televised nationally on Fox Sports 1.
