The Seattle Sounders will open the 2016 Major League Soccer season at CenturyLink Field against Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, March 6 at 4 p.m. PST, the league announced Tuesday in a release.

In addition, the Sounders travel to Rio Tinto Stadium in Week 2 to face Real Salt Lake on March 12. The rest of the league schedule will be announced on Jan. 7.

Seattle faces a quick turnaround from its CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal against Club America. Leg 2 takes place on Wednesday, March 2 in Mexico City, giving the Sounders just a few days to prepare for the home opener against fellow 2015 playoff qualifier Kansas City. Sounders-Sporting will be televised nationally on Fox Sports 1.

Other MLS opening day headliners on the 6th include Toronto at the Red Bulls (10:30 a.m. PST), Columbus at Portland (1:30 p.m.), Montreal at Vancouver (2:30 p.m.) and D.C. at L.A. (7 p.m.).

Seattle is 5-2-0 all-time in MLS regular-season openers, including a 1-0 victory over Kansas City in 2014. This also marks the sixth time in eight seasons that the Sounders have opened on national TV.
