Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan has accepted a challenge from Toronto Mayor John Tory over the outcome of this weekend’s MLS Cup soccer match between the Sounders and the Toronto Football Club.

MLS Cup Final

Sounders FC (14-9-11) vs. Toronto FC (20-5-9)

The two teams faced off in last year’s MLS Cup, where the Sounders won in a shootout. But the Seattle team lost to Toronto in a May rematch.

In a Twitter exchange, Tory agreed that if his football club lost he would send a gift basket to Durkan containing Tim Horton’s coffee, a St. Lawrence peameal bacon sandwich and maple syrup. He also agreed to wear a Sounders scarf and to have the city’s “Toronto” sign lighted emerald green in the event of a loss.

For Seattle’s part, Durkan said that if the Sounders lost, she would send Tory a basket with Starbucks coffee, Beecher’s homemade cheese, Oberto jerky and Totem Smokehouse salmon, wear a Toronto FC scarf and have City Hall awash in red light.

The mayors also both agreed to donate $100 to charity for every goal made by their team.

The match will be played at BMO Field in Toronto on at 1 p.m. Saturday on ESPN.
