WASHINGTON, D.C. — Here are the notable notes for Wednesday night’s Sounders-D.C. United match at RFK Stadium:
- Jose Carlos Rivero is the referee, Matthew Nelson and Jose da Silva are his assistants and Sorin Stoica is the fourth official.
- Sounders forwards Clint Dempsey (United States) and Nelson Valdez (Paraguay) are away on national team duty, as D.C. defender Steve Birnbaum (United States) and forward Alvaro Saborio (Costa Rica) — the latter of whom is DCU’s leading scorer.
- Goals could be at a premium on Wednesday night, and not only due to the missing firepower. D.C. has scored just 14 times this season, fewest of any Eastern Conference team besides Chicago, and Seattle’s 11 goals rank last in the Western Conference.
- The Sounders lead the all-time series between the clubs 6-2-2. This is the only match between the teams this season.
- Seattle enters Wednesday’s match on a three-match losing streak, matching the skid it opened the season with.
- Former Sounder Lamar Neagle is tied for the D.C. team lead with three assists and has also netted a pair of goals.
Below are the lineups for both teams, with Sounders defender Chad Marshall again missing out with a strained hamstring and defense-first Dylan Remick replacing Joevin Jones at left back.
- Seattle starting XI: Frei; Mears, Scott, Evans, Remick; Alonso, Roldan, Friberg; Kovar, Morris, Ivanschitz. Sounders bench: Miller, Fisher, J. Jones, Alfaro, Sturgis, D. Jones, Gomez.
- D.C. starting XI: Hamid; Kemp, Boswell, Opare, Franklin; Neagle, Marcelo, Jeffrey, DeLeon; Acosta, Espindola. United subs: Worra, Mishu, Vincent, Buscher, Aguilar, Kamara, Robinson.
