Rugby will take over the Starfire Sports soccer complex this weekend for the USA Rugby Men’s and Women’s Sevens Championships.

Rugby sevens is a branch of the game with seven players on each side, who play two seven-minute halves split up by a one-minute halftime.

Seattle OPSB Rugby, which earned its sixth men’s club sevens championship last year, is hosting the event. It’s the third time in history a championship event has been held in Seattle, following the 1999 Club Sevens and 2012 Super League Final.

Seattle OPSB Rugby is now a branch of Saracens, an international rugby network based in London. The Seattle club is considered a favorite to win the men’s sevens title this year.

Sixteen men’s and 16 women’s teams will compete for the championships at Starfire. Play begins at 8 a.m. Saturday and goes until 8 p.m. On Sunday, it’s from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.

One-day passes are available for $10, two-day passes for $15.

One win from Williamsport

The Pacific Little League All-Stars of Lynnwood and Edmonds are one game from the World Series.

Pacific will play for the Northwest Regional title, facing Bend, Ore., in a 1 p.m. game Saturday at San Bernardino, Calif.

The game will be televised by ESPN.
