Lane, who was officially activated this week, intercepted a pass by backup quarterback Landry Jones on Sunday and returned it 54 yards to the Pittsburgh 24-yard line on the first play of the second quarter.

The Steelers were lining up for a field-goal attempt when Jones (serving as a holder) stood up to take the snap and attempt a pass to left tackle Alejandro Villanueva, who lined up as an eligible receiver.

The turnover sparked the Seahawks, who nevertheless had an eventful scoring drive. Thomas Rawls had churned his way to the 1-yard line when J.R. Sweezy committed an unnecessary-roughness penalty, pushing the Seahawks back 15 yards. Seattle nevertheless scored on the next play, a 16-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Doug Baldwin with 12:18 to go in the second quarter to put the Seahawks ahead, 7-3.
