Running back Thomas Rawls continues to increase his workload in practice. But he won't play Thursday against Dallas, according to coach Pete Carroll.

Another day, another really good practice for Seahawks running back Thomas Rawls on Tuesday.

“He looks great,’’ said offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell after Rawls was again a full participant in Seattle’s practice.

But while Bevell said Rawls is “doing everything we could possibly ask’’ Rawls will not play Thursday against Dallas in Seattle’s third preseason game.

While coach Pete Carroll did not meet the media following Tuesday’s practice, he appeared on KJR-AM later in the day with Dave “Softy” Mahler and said that Rawls will not play against the Cowboys but that he will be ready for the regular season opener against Miami Sept. 11.

That appears to keep in play that Rawls could play next Thursday at Oakland as general manager John Schneider said last week is the team’s hope.

Regardless of if or when Rawls plays in the preseason, the bigger picture remains that he has continued to be able to practice, and increase his workload, without any setbacks as he recovers from a broken and dislocated ankle suffered last Dec. 13.

“He’s been practicing every day, he’s been practicing really hard, he’s looking great, he’s going through the process,’’ Bevell said.

The Seahawks could get another running back in the fold for Thursday’s game, though, as rookie C.J. Prosise has practiced the last two days, and if he has no setbacks could make his Seattle debut against the Cowboys.

“If he continues to progress the way he is then we’ll get a chance to see him in the game,’’ Bevell said. “. … It’s nice to have him out here, nice to see him practicing. He still has another test tomorrow (Wednesday) when we come back out here and practice. But I like what I see.’’

Here are a few other notes from Bevell’s meeting with the media Tuesday. …

  • First-round pick Germain Ifedi did not practice on Tuesday due to what Bevell said is “a little oblique thing going on. Just rest him. Making sure it doesn’t’ get any worse and hopefully that will be just a one-day thing.’’ With Ifedi out, veteran Jahri Evans worked with the first team at right guard.
  • OL J’Marcus Webb also practiced again on Tuesday and also appears on track to playing for the first time as a Seahawk against Dallas. Webb has been working at both tackle spots with Bevell saying the team just needs to see him play some. “We haven’t had an opportunity to see him play so with the opportunity to stay out there, communicate with the guys next to him, whether it’s the guard, whether it’s the tight ends when they come over to their side, just being able to play the whole game and be out there and have good communication,’’ Bevell said.
  • Bevell concurred with what OL coach Tom Cable said earlier this week that the team needs to see how Webb does before really knowing how to set the line. “There is still a lot of shuffling that is going on,’’ he said.
  • Tanner McEvoy continues to get work at tight end with Bevell saying that “with Nick (Vannett) going down we just need a little more depth at the position.’’ Vannett, a rookie from Ohio State, suffered a high ankle sprain against the Vikings.
  • TE Jimmy Graham did not practice on Tuesday but Bevell said he was just getting a day off. “He’s had four really hard days and they were just giving him a break from the rigors of all the things we have been asking him to do,’’ Bevell said.
  • QB Trevone Boykin also got a rest day on Monday, Bevell said. But he was back on Tuesday.
  • Bevell said the plan for Thurday’s game is the same as it usually is for a third preseason game — for the starters to play into the third quarter. “Our starters for sure they will come out of half and work into the third quarter,” he said. “We’ll see how far that goes.”
  • The starters have played six series so far this preseason without scoring. “We have had some very nice drives moving the ball but not scoring points,” Bevell said. “So we need to make sure we do a better job of handling that. Make sure we do a better job of finishing drives.”
