Poopfest or not, the Seahawks are NFC West champs for the third time in four years. Here's how Seattle celebrated on social media.
It wasn’t always pretty, but when the clock struck triple zeros Thursday night, the Seahawks were NFC West champions.
The Hawks finished atop the division for the third time in the last four years and ninth in the 15 seasons since realignment shifted them into the NFC West. And they did it in the brightest uniforms to date.
Our very scientific Twitter poll showed a majority of fans liked the “action green” Color Rush uniforms, though. Even if it meant having to adjust the color settings on your television for a few hours.
For much of the first half, the game looked to be in the spitting image of Richard Sherman’s description of Thursday night games earlier in the week: a poopfest.
There were penalties abound. Pete Carroll threw his challenge flag three times in the game’s first 18 minutes. Russell Wilson missed receivers, and Thomas Rawls struggled to get things going on the ground. But Seattle turned things around as the game went on. Wilson got his touch back and had one of his best passing lines of the season until a late-game interception. He finished 19 of 26 for 229 yards and three TDs, with the interception.
Possibly the most memorable moment of the game came once it was already out of hand. Jon Ryan took off running down the middle of the field on a fake punt. Exciting in its own right. But then Ryan fumbled the ball into the air as he was trying to switch hands. That caused him to stumble to the ground and take a brutal, arguably unnecessary, hit that left him concussed.
