Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has spent the last six years praising safety Earl Thomas for his uniqueness, his competitiveness, his drive. He has said that his defense all starts with the play in the secondary, and much of what the Seahawks have done has started with Thomas.
He trusted his instincts and could deliver hits near the line of scrimmage while still eliminating big plays deep. Carroll liked how Thomas took away so many plays before they even happened because of his positioning and ability.
And now the Seahawks will have to move on without Thomas, who is out for the season with a broken leg.
