Former safety Kenny Easley, one of eight players in the Seahawks’ Ring of Honor, says he recently underwent triple-bypass heart surgery.

Easley tweeted the news Monday, saying the surgery was why he missed his golf tournament in Redmond on July 28-29.

He also tweeted that the surgery was a “Minor setback for a major comeback!”

Easley, who turned 57 on Jan. 15, played for the Seahawks from 1981-87 and was their first defensive star. He was named the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year in 1984 as a strong safety. He also was named the AFC Rookie of the Year in 1981 and played in five Pro Bowls, named as a starter in 1983, 1984 and 1985.

He was inducted into the team’s Ring of Honor in 2002.

Since retiring from football, Easley has worked in commercial real estate in Norfolk, Va.

He also raised the 12th man flag before a divisional playoff game against Carolina in 2015.

Easley was drafted in the first round in 1981 out of UCLA with the fourth overall pick.

After being traded to Arizona in 1988, Easley was forced to retire after being diagnosed with a kidney disease.
