0:00 | Seahawks 23, 49ers 23 Overtime, here we come. The Seahawks appeared to have something going, approaching midfield with about a minute left. But an Ethan Pocic holding call — the Seahawks’ 12th penalty of the game — effectively ended their chances.

2:46 | Seahawks 23, 49ers 23 Russell Wilson got the ball in his hands with 4:21 to go, but he and the Seahawks aren’t able to do anything with it, punting it right back to the 49ers. Next score wins?

5:21 | Seahawks 23, 49ers 23 All tied up again. The Seahawks’ drive stalls on third-and-7 when Russell Wilson is flushed and takes a short loss, setting up a 48-yard Sebastian Janikowski field goal, which is good. Remember, without a missed PAT earlier, the Seahawks would have a one-point lead.

9:51 | 49ers 23, Seahawks 20 Backed into a first-and-20, the 49ers are bailed out by a questionable pass interference call on Delano Hill, allowing them to drive into Seahawks territory and set up a 45-yard Robbie Gould field goal to retake the lead. Here’s a look at the PI call:

13:51 | Seahawks 20, 49ers 20 Chris Carson will not be denied! On fourth down from the 1-yard line, Carson’s second, third and fourth efforts are finally enough to will himself across the goal line and tie the game.

QUARTER 3

2:54 | 49ers 20, Seahawks 13 Fairly uneventful start to the second half, with these teams trading punts. But San Francisco crosses midfield, its drive extended by two Seattle personal foul penalties — first, they get Neiko Thorpe for unnecessary roughness, then Bobby Wagner for a facemask. Justin Coleman gets into a scuffle and draws a third personal foul, moving the 49ers into the red zone. Finally, it goes the other way, a 49ers’ personal foul moving them out of a second-and-2 inside the 10, eventually forcing a field goal.

HALFTIME

Halftime thoughts from Bob Condotta:

  • A weird half with the Seahawks gaining 216 yards but trailing, largely due to a kickoff return for a TD, the first Seattle has allowed since 2015. Seattle gets the ball first in the second half and that will be big.
  • Doug Baldwin!!! I wrote a lot last week about the impact his absence seemed to make and it was apparent the difference he made when he combined with Russell Wilson for an improved play for Seattle’s second TD. You can’t draw that kind of thing up.
  • Seattle needs better play in the back end to win this game. Without Bradley McDougald, Seattle has a pretty makeshift secondary and will need really good play out of the likes of Delano Hill and Shalom Luani to pull this off.

QUARTER 2

5:19 | 49ers 14, Seahawks 13 Doug Baldwin reels in his second touchdown of the day, pirouetting and diving into the end zone after Russell Wilson threads the needle for 35 yards. Seattle elects to kick the point-after, pulling within one, rather than try to tie it with a two-point attempt.

6:40 | 49ers 14, Seahawks 6 Bradley McDougald left the field, and it was announced in the press box he is doubtful to return with a knee injury.

9:29 | 49ers 14, Seahawks 6 After being pinned deep again by Michael Dickson, the 49ers put together the longest scoring drive against the Seattle defense all season: 98 yards, capped by Tedric Thompson slipping in coverage and Garrett Celek catching a 41-yard TD to put San Francisco up eight.

QUARTER 1

First-quarter observations from Bob Condotta:

  • Sort of a strange first quarter with Seattle dominating the stats but the 49ers having the lead due to the long kickoff return. First time this year it’s really felt so far like special teams has hurt the Seahawks.
  • 49ers had a nice plan on their second possession but the Seahawks forced a turnover – which has been a theme for each team this season. Seattle plus 11 and the 49ers minus 21 on TOs entering the game.
  • Seahawks are using their six-DB formation in this game again but with little effect so far.
  • Mike Davis is getting a lot of work with Rashaad Penny out.

2:39 | 49ers 7, Seahawks 6 The 49ers’ most recent drive ended abruptly, as Seahawks safety Bradley McDougald forced a Jeff Wilson Jr. fumble that Tre Flowers recovered. This was not a surprising development. Why? The Seahawks rank second in the NFL in turnover differential this season (+12), while the 49ers rank dead last (-22). —Mike Vorel

9:27 | 49ers 7, Seahawks 6 Sebastian Janikowski has had a rough first quarter. The 19-year veteran missed an extra point following a Seahawks touchdown on their opening drive. Surprisingly, all three of his missed extra points this season have come against the 49ers. Then he sent the subsequent kickoff short of the end zone, and it was returned 97 yards by Richie James Jr. for a score. Both of Janikowski’s two first quarter kickoffs have landed short of the end zone. —Mike Vorel

10:24 | Seahawks 0, 49ers 0 After Chris Carson takes the Seahawks to the 6-yard line, 49ers cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon goes down, grabbing his knee. He is questionable to return, and San Francisco now has rookie Tarvarius Moore at right cornerback. Seattle quickly marched down the field after forcing a punt on the 49ers’ opening drive, powered by this 28-yard connection from Russell Wilson to Tyler Lockett.

PREGAME

11:41 a.m. Doug Baldwin said Friday he would play Sunday against the 49ers.

And that became official Sunday morning when Baldwin was among Seattle’s active players for the 1:05 p.m. kickoff against the 49ers.

The inactive players for Seattle didn’t contain any real surprises. Among the inactives were four players who are injured —- safety Maurice Alexander (concussion), linebacker K.J. Wright (knee), offensive lineman D.J. Fluker (hamstring) and running back Rashaad Penny (knee).

The other three were healthy scratches to get down to the gameday max of 53 — defensive lineman Nazair Jones, cornerback Kalan Reed and offensive lineman Joey Hunt.

Jones is inactive with Seattle instead going with Poona Ford as its third defensive tackle and keeping all of its ends active.
