On Sunday, sports and politics have collided in a way they haven’t in decades. And the Seahawks are at the epicenter of the conversation. Seattle released a statement saying the team will not participate in the national anthem, saying “We will not stand for the injustice that has plagued of color in this country.”
The Titans also chose to not participate in Sunday’s anthem, saying “as a team, we wanted to be unified in our actions today. The players jointly decided this was the best course of action.”
President Trump on Friday called out the NFL and players like Michael Bennett who have chosen to sit during the national anthem to raise awareness about racial inequalities in America. The response from players and teams was strong and swift. And on Sunday, we’ll likely see words take shape into action.
Politics aside, the Seahawks will have their hands full as they face a stout Titans team on the road in a show-me game for a Seattle team that has lacked style points this season.
