The Los Angeles Rams are expected to host a regular-season game in China in 2018. That means that the Seahawks, as one of the eight teams that will be a road opponent of the Rams in 2018, could be a possibility for the game.
BOCA RATON, Fla. — Reports Wednesday that the Los Angeles Rams could host a regular season game in China in 2018 could have implications for the Seattle Seahawks.
As one of the eight teams who will play a road game against the Rams that season, the Seahawks could theoretically end up as Los Angeles’ opponent for what would be the NFL’s first game in China.
There are a lot of questions still to be answered. At a press conference losing the NFL meetings on Wednesday, commissioner Roger Goodell said it had yet to be formally decided if the Rams will for sure host the game and said that multiple teams have shown interest. The Rams, though, are expected to be the host.
Assuming the Rams are the host, the question then would become which opponent would travel to play Los Angeles in the game.

Seattle could be a fit as a popular team that could still be a Super Bowl favorite at that point and would be as close to China travel-wise as any other possible foe.
The Seahawks have not stated a stance on playing in such a game (the reports surfaced after coach Pete Carroll met with the media here Wednesday morning).
But the NFL is also making it clear that the International Series games are not only here to stay but appear likely to continue to expand, meaning teams won’t really have much choice other than to agree to play as the number of international games increases.
Goodell said the size and influence of China as a market can’t be ignored, giving a strong message that the league will continue to explore opportunities to play games there.
The Seahawks were scheduled to play New England in a pre-season game in China in 2007 before the game was cancelled when the league decided to concentrate its efforts on its series of games in London.
Other opponents already set on the Rams’ 2018 home schedule are the 49ers, Cardinals, Packers, Vikings, Chiefs and Chargers. The lone remaining home game to be determined is a team from the NFC East who finishes in the same spot as the Rams in their division in 2017.
The Rams are reportedly being tabbed to host the game since the 2018 season will be their last playing in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum before moving into their new stadium.
The NFL is also investigating playing a game in Germany in 2017 along with continuing its series of games in London. There will again be three games in London in 2016. The Seahawks have yet to play an international game.
