Seahawks fans might not want to ever relive Super Bowl XLIX, but the game itself could go down as the best of the year in any sport.
The Seahawks’ thrilling — albeit painful– 28-24 loss to the Patriots in Super Bowl XLIX is up for nomination for “Best game” in this year’s ESPY Awards, a sports award show put on by ESPN held July 15 at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
Hosted by Seattle’s own Joel McHale, the show is a must-watch for any sports fan, but Seahawks fans will surely want to avert their eyes once the clip of Malcolm Butler’s late interception starts to play across the big screen. On a more positive note, the Seahawks took home the ESPY for “Best Team,” last year after their 2014 Super Bowl run.
Also nominated in this year’s show is Sounders star Obafemi Martins, who is in the running for “Best Major League Soccer player.” The show will also honor Caitlyn Jenner — formerly Bruce — with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.
