SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. – Swift Current’s Aleksi Heponiemi scored in the last second of the first period for a 2-0 lead and the Broncos went on to take the Western Hockey League championship with a 3-0 victory over the Everett Silvertips on Sunday night.

Swift Current won the best-of-seven WHL championship series in six games. The Broncos also won the league title in 1989 and 1993.

Everett, seeking its first WHL title, outshot Swift Current 31-25, but was unable to get the puck past goaltender Stuart Skinner.
