Trout fishing isn’t the only draw this coming weekend, and outdoors enthusiasts can take advantage of making a combo trip.

The coastal razor clam digs are set to begin this Wednesday at Twin Harbors with more beaches opening heading into the weekend.

Digging will be open Wednesday to Tuesday at Twin Harbors; Friday to Sunday at Long Beach, Mocrocks and Copalis; and Monday at Mocrocks. Digging is open until noon each day.

The previous digs from April 9-14 produced a good number of razor clams.

Since the season began Oct. 13 through April 14 a total of 94,389 digger trips at Long Beach produced 1,297,660 clams (24,835 were clam wastage); 57,367 at Twin Harbors had 789,807 (18,609); 55,067 at Copalis had 775,918 (13,093); and 33,559 at Mocrocks had 487,564 (4,472).

A total of 240,362 digger trips coastwide have harvested 3,389,827 (61,009).

Low tides: Wednesday, minus-0.3 feet at 6:10 a.m.; Thursday, -1.0 at 6:54 a.m.; Friday, -1.5 at 7:38 a.m.; Saturday, -1.7 at 8:24 a.m.; Sunday, -1.5 at 10:01 a.m.; and Tuesday, -1.0 at 10:55 a.m.

Depending on how things pan out during the next series of digs, state Fish and Wildlife could have more digs planned in May.

Long Beach has reached 71.6 percent of the total allowable harvest; Twin Harbors is at 43.0 percent; Copalis is at 73.6 percent; and Mocrocks is at 54.1 percent.

Fishing activities

There are plenty of fun fishing events to get kids and first-timers hooked.

• The C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation offers youth fishing events. Each receives a T-shirt, and rod and reel to keep for $5. Kids fish in groups for 30 to 60 minutes. Details:

• State Fish and Wildlife also provides opportunities for youth age 5 to 14. Some offer take home or loaner rods-and-reels, and others require them to bring their own tackle. Details:

• The Hooked on Fishing Opening Day Trout Derby is 12:01 a.m. to noon Saturday. at Lake Wilderness in Maple Valley. Events begin 3 p.m. Friday with tent camping (no RV’s) offered at the park. Cost is $2 for the derby, and the tagged fish derby is $5. Details:

• The Sky Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited Free Kid’s Trout Fishing Day is 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at at Lake Tye in Monroe on Fryelands Blvd. An adult derby is 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., and cost is $10. Details: 206-818-2991 or 425-359-7756.

• The Aberdeen VFW Free Kids Fishing Derby is daylight until noon Saturday at Lake Aberdeen. Register at the lake from 5:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.

• The Elma Game Club Free All-Ages Fishing Derby is daylight until 10 a.m. Saturday at Elma Vance Creek Ponds 1 and 2 south of Elma in Vance Creek County Park.
