Tori Bivens went 4 for 5 to back the pitching of Lisa Nelson as the host Kirkland team beat Iloilo Province, Philippines, 12-3 on Friday to advance to Saturday’s championship game of the Junior Softball World Series at Everest Park.

Kirkland faces Tampa, Fla., in the final at 2 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN2.

Kirkland’s victory was its second in the tournament over the Asia-Pacific representative. Kirkland won 10-0 in pool play.

Nelson had lots of offensive support. Brynn Radke went 3 for 4 with a double and Hannah Walker had a double and triple.

In Friday’s other semifinal, Tampa edged Canfield, Ohio, 6-5 behind homers from Haley Morrell and Gianna Carideo.

Saturday’s schedule begins at 8:30 a.m. In the third-place game at 11 a.m., Ohio plays the Philippines.


Charlie Hughes, a recent University of Washington graduate from Maple Ridge, B.C., lost 2 and 1 to Australian Brady Watt in the round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur in Brookline, Mass. Watt, a co-medalist in stroke-play qualifying, is in Saturday’s semifinals.
