Kirkland’s Gail Brodsky won the women’s open championship in the Washington State Open with a 7-6, 6-3 victory over fifth-seeded Riko Shimizu on Sunday at the Seattle Tennis Club.

The top-seeded Brodsky is a 22-year-old former pro who played in all four Grand Slam events.

In the men’s open singles final, second-seeded Julio Peralta of Boiling Springs, S.C., defeated No. 1 Jason Jung of Torrance, Calif., 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

In women’s open doubles, Shimizu, a University of Washington junior from Ojai, Calif., and WTA player Kady Pooler rallied to beat top-seeded Denise Dy and Dea Sumantri, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
