It's not everyday you see a fan run onto the field, let alone a running fan nearly interfere with a live play.
This barefoot bandit didn’t make it far.
In a wild scene Saturday night, Safeco Field security tackled a barefoot fan just before he reached the infield dirt — but not before the fan nearly interfered with a key play in the top of the fifth inning of the Mariners’ game vs. the St. Louis Cardinals.
The fan had leaped onto the field from the beer garden in center field and ran under the path of a flyball hit into the alley in left-center field. Mariners left field Seth Smith managed to avoid the sprinting fan and catch the fly ball off the bat of St. Louis slugger Matt Carpenter, saving at least one run.
The fan was quickly escorted off the field by several security members.
