PEORIA, Ariz. — The Mariners opened their 2019 season with the first official spring training workout for pitchers and catchers on Tuesday morning. With a bright sun in a cloudless sky and temperatures in the high 50s, the sounds of leather gloves popping from catching baseballs permeated throughout the backfields of the Mariners complex.

Mariners starting rotation regulars Marco Gonzales and Wade LeBlanc were among the groups of pitchers that threw bullpen sessions along with top prospect Justus Sheffield and hard-throwing Gerson Bautista.

Japanese sensation Yusei Kikuchi drew a mass of media members that watched, filmed and catalogued his every move. He will throw a bullpen session on Wednesday.

Here’s some video (some scenes courtesy of the Mariners) from the day and also video of Scott Servais’ media session at the bottom of the post.
