The Mariners will have an afternoon start for their first playoff game since 2001.
Game 1 of the three-game American League Wild Card series between the Mariners and Blue Jays is scheduled to start at 1:07 p.m. PT Friday in Toronto, MLB announced Wednesday morning.
The game will air on ESPN.
Luis Castillo (8-6, 2.99 ERA) will start for the Mariners in Game 1.
Right-hander Alek Manoah (16-7, 2.24) has been announced as the Game 1 starter for the Blue Jays.
Game 2 on Saturday is also scheduled for a 1:07 p.m. PT start (4:07 p.m. in Toronto), also on ESPN.
If necessary, Game 3 is scheduled for a 11:07 a.m. PT start Sunday. That game will air on ABC.
Starting pitchers for Games 2 and 3 have not been announced.
The Blue Jays, the No. 1 wild card seed, will host a playoff game at the Rogers Centre for the first time since 2016. The Blue Jays wrapped up the regular season with a doubleheader Wednesday in Baltimore.
The winner of the Seattle-Toronto wild card series will head to Houston to play the Astros in the divisional round starting Tuesday. Under MLB’s new playoff format, the two top teams in each league — that’s the Astros and Yankees in the AL this season — receive a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Fans back in Seattle can gather at T-Mobile Park this weekend for a Wild Card Watch Party during the Mariners-Blue Jays series. Tickets for the viewing party are $10 for the public and $5 for season ticket members. Parking at the Mariners garage is $10. More info is available at Mariners.com/party.
