Mariners Notes

  • RHP Hisashi Iwakuma notched his 4th quality start this month, by giving up just 1 run on 4 hits in 6.0 innings of work… did not receive a decision, in what was his 1st ND since 5/14 vs. LAA…his 4 hits allowed were his lowest since giving up 4 on 7/23 at TOR.
  • DH Nelson Cruz notched his 101st RBI of the season with a groundout in the 1st inning…is the 1st Mariners player since Raul Ibanez to plate more than 100 runs in a season…Ibanez had 110 in 2008…has tallied 9 RBI in his last 4 games.
  • 2B Robinson Cano hit his 34th and 35th homers of the season tonight…35 homers in a new career high, surpassing the 33 he hit while with the Yankees in 2012…the homer was his 8th this season against the Astros…the last player with at least 8 homers against the Astros in a single season was Sammy Sosa in 2001 (11 HR)…prior to this season, the last Mariners player with more homers vs. any singular opponent was Ken Griffey Jr., who had 8 against the Rangers in 1994…Nelson Cruz has 10 HR against the Angels this season.
  • Cano doubled in the 1st inning, extending his hitting streak at Minute Maid Park to 11 games, which dates back to 8/31/2015… is batting .435 (20×46) with 4 doubles, 6 homers and 12 RBI during the streak…his career .370 (47×127) batting average at the venue ranks 4th all-time among players with at least 120 at-bats…now has 763 career extra-base hits as a second baseman…is 3 shy of tying Craig Biggio for the 3rd-most XBH by a 2nd baseman in Major League history.

Astros notes

  • Astros starting pitchers have allowed 2 runs or less in each of the last 8 games, posting a 2.51 ERA (13ER/46.2IP) in that span…marks the club’s longest streak since an 8-game run from 6/14-22
  • The Astros played in their 18th extra-innings game this season, which leads the AL and ranks T-2nd in the Majors trailing only the Braves (22 games)…Houston is 10-8 in extra-innings games this season…18 extra-innings games are the most for the franchise since 2011, when they partook in free baseball 18 times (5-13).
  • RHP Collin McHugh posted another strong start against the Mariners, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits in 7.0 innings…owns a 1.41 ERA (5ER/32IP) against the Mariners this season in 5 starts…has pitched at least 5 innings, and given up no more than 2 runs in each of his 5 starts vs. the club this season…is the lowest ERA for an Astros starter (min. 5 starts) against any club in a season since RHP Wade Miller posted a 1.13 ERA against the Brewers in 2001.
