PEORIA, Ariz. — The Extra Innings podcast returns to discuss to major topics concerning the Mariners and this spring training. Beat writer Ryan Divish and Larry Stone analyze the Mariners’ decision to start Marco Gonzales instead of Felix Hernandez for opening day on March 20 in Tokyo. Hernandez has started the last 10 opening day games and was admittedly upset that he won’t be able to make it 11 in a row. But given the direction of the organization, is Gonzales is more deserving?

The conversation then turns to roster projection for the opening series in Japan and then the reduction of the roster for the rest of the regular season and how the injuries to Kyle Seager and Gerson Bautista might affect the Mariners’ decisions.

Also discussed are Larry’s rotting bananas.
