Angels 5, Mariners 5 at the Peoria Sports Complex
Notable
The Mariners took an early 2-0 lead against Angels starter Kyle Hendricks. Miles Mastrobuoni led off the third inning with a double and later scored when Ben Williamson punched a single through the right side. With two outs, J.P. Crawford looped a single to right field that allowed Williamson to advance to third. Randy Arozarena drove in the run with a ground ball to right field.
Later with the game tied at 2-2, Mitch Garver smacked his second homer of the spring. With pinch-runner Hogan Windish on first base, Garver ambushed a first-pitch sinker from reliever Connor Brogdon, pulling a line drive just over the wall and inside the foul pole.
Right-hander Gregory Santos made his first appearance of the spring. He wasn’t able to finish the fourth inning due to an error on Williamson and a passed ball by Garver, which led to a run. He did hit 98 mph with his sinker and looked dominant, striking out two of the first three batters he faced.
Trailing 5-4 in the ninth inning, Luis Suisbel lashed a double to deep left-center off Angels lefty Jose Suarez to score pinch runner Josh Hood. But Suarez came to back to strike out Brock Rodden and Jack Lopez to end the game in a tie.
Player of the game
Making his second start of the spring, Bryan Woo looked dominant. He struck out the first four batters he faced in his outing. After allowing a soft double with one out in the second inning and then committing a throwing error on a comebacker, he struck out Jo Adell and Scott Kingery to strand both runners in the second.
Woo’s final line: 2 1/3 innings pitched, one hit allowed with a walk and six strikeouts.
Quotable
“I thought Bryan pitched really well today. He had a good fastball early on, especially, and really impressed me with his sweeper and his slider today too. He used it a lot and was able to land it for strikes.” — Dan Wilson

Samad Taylor drove in the Mariners’ first two runs of the game in the second inning, lining a crisp single to left field off Arizona starter Merrill Kelly.
