Charlie Beilenson struck out EJ Andrews Jr. with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning and the Everett AquaSox held off a late rally to beat the host Spokane Indians 4-3 in the season opener for both teams.
Lazaro Montes went 2 for 2, including a solo home run in the second inning, walked twice and stole a base. Charlie Pagliarini went 2 for 3 with a home run, double and two RBI, and Josh Caron also drove in a run for Everett.
Ryan Hawks started on the mound for the AquaSox and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits in five innings. Hawks struck out five and walked two.
• Samad Taylor hit a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the eighth inning and Drew Pomeranz pitched a perfect ninth for his first save of the season as the Tacoma Rainiers beat the host Reno Aces 7-6.
Taylor finished 2 for 3 with two RBI and two runs scored, Dominic Canzone went 3 for 5, and Harry Ford doubled and drove in two runs for the Rainiers (5-2).
SOFTBALL
• Charity Sevaaetasi hit a walkoff double in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift Washington to a thrilling 3-2 win over visiting Wisconsin.
In the bottom of the 10th, Jadyn Glab drew a one-out walk and advanced to second on a base hit from Giselle Alvarez before scoring on Sevaaetasi’s double to give the Huskies (27-9, 5-2 Big Ten) the victory.
• Seattle U (22-14, 7-4 WAC) was swept in a doubleheader by scores of 1-0 and 2-1 to visiting California Baptist.
BASEBALL
• Max Banks tossed six dominant innings, allowing one run on two hits while striking out seven as Washington beat visiting Purdue 8-1.
AJ Guerrero went 3 for 5 with two RBI, Casen Taggart went 2 for 5 with two RBI, and ColinBlanchard hit a solo home run for the Huskies (14-17, 6-4 Big Ten).
• Griffin Smith allowed just one run on three hits in seven strong innings, and Gavin Roy drove in three runs as host Washington State cruised to a 10-2 win over San Jose State.
Kyler Northrop went 2 for 4 with two RBI, a Luke Thiele also drove in a pair of runs for the Cougars (11-18, 5-5 MWC).
• Kenny Ishikawa went 3 for 5 with a home run, double and two RBI as Seattle U (11-18, 2-5 WAC) beat visiting Tarleton State 11-6 to open a three-game series.

• The Washington men (12-6, 4-4 Big Ten) edged No. 38 Nebraska 4-3.
• The Seattle U men (2-8) capped the regular season with a 5-2 win over visiting Portland State.
• The No. 21 Washington women (15-2) beat visiting No. 23 Pepperdine 4-2.
SOCCER
• Seattle Reign defender Jordyn Bugg was named to the NWSL Best XI of the Month.
The 18-year-old finished the month tied for the seventh-most clearances (18) in the league and posted a 100% tackle success rate.
TRACK AND FIELD
• Maya Ewing broke the Seattle Pacific school record in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase (10 minutes, 35.63 seconds) at the Stanford Invitational in Stanford, Calif.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
• Washington (11-11) fell to No. 6 Cal Poly 4-1 and No. 2 UCLA 5-0 at the Best in the West event in Laguna Beach, Calif.
HOCKEY
• Julius Miettinen scored twice and the visiting Everett Silvertips beat the Seattle Thunderbirds 6-2 to even the best-of-seven, first-round playoff series 2-2.
