Four coaches from the Seattle area were named the coach of the year for their classification after guiding their teams to state titles.
Liberty’s Makena Carr (Class 2A) and King’s Katie Stella (1A) were named MVPs for their classification by the Washington State Soccer Coaches Association, which released its all-state team on Wednesday.
Carr, who was named Star Times player of the year, was joined on the team by her coach, Tami Nguyen, who lead the Patriots to the Class 2A state title. King’s coach Nicole Gabelein was named the Class 1A state coach of the year after leading the Knights to a state title.
Issaquah coach Tom Bunnell was named the Class 4A state coach of the year after winning a state title shortly after announcing he was retiring as coach. Mercer Island’s James Valles was named the Class 3A state coach of the year after leading the Islanders to the state title.
