Everywhere I went during the first day of the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, people were smiling. And why not? The weather was comfortable (if a bit chilly), the scenery spectacular and it was no problem at all seeing the great golf at Sahalee Country Club.

At last year’s U.S. Open at Chambers Bay in University Place, the golf and views were spectacular, but spectator access was very limited. I understood when people who had multi-day tickets decided after one day at Chambers Bay that they would rather watch on TV.

Here, there is great access and viewpoints on every hole, and it’s a much easier walk for spectators with fewer slopes and holes in much closer proximity to each other.

I would like to see more comprehensive scoreboards out on the course, but that’s a minor complaint.
I highly recommend coming out to see a round, particularly for golf fans who have not seen Sahalee. It is definitely not a good walk spoiled.
