Sonics forward Danny Fortson has been suspended for two games without pay for what the league termed “verbal abuse of a game official and for failure to leave the court in a timely manner following an ejection,” it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA senior vice president Basketball Operations.

Fortson will serve his suspension tonight at Denver and on Saturday at home against Memphis.

The incident occured in the fourth quarter of Wednesday’s game with Minnesota at the Target Center. Fortson was called for an offensive foul for swinging his elbows after being double-teamed, resulting in a Sonics turnover. During a timeout, the official, Sean Corbin, tossed Fortson out of the game.

The Sonic then charged after Corbin, but was restrained by teammates.
