GIG HARBOR — Started as an equestrian community in the mid-1980s, the master-planned community of Canterwood now includes a Robert Muir Graves-designed, 18-hole 7,175-yard championship golf course, tennis courts, outdoor swimming pools, fitness center and dining at the Canterwood Golf and Country Club.
Garrette Custom Homes is building one of the final home offerings at Canterwood: a secluded 17-lot enclave in the southwest corner of the gated community.
A grand opening celebration for the homes is planned on May 13 from noon to 5 p.m. Stacks Burgers will have a food truck onsite, and one of Garrette’s model homes will be available to tour.
Three of the homes have been sold, but some great homesites remain, says Russell Tanner, the president of Canterwood Development.
“Canterwood has done a great job over the years at preserving a superior level of landscaping and design despite having homes built over an almost 30-year period,” he says.
The community is located minutes from Highway 16 and Gig Harbor North’s burgeoning retail section, including Costco and restaurants.
“I was shocked that we were able to secure building lots in a community like Canterwood,” says Matt Lewis, the president of Garrette Custom Homes. “With the land supply constraints of the Puget Sound region, I don’t think you’ll see a residential community with this level of amenities again.”
Garrette Custom Homes is offering a variety of home plans, with a focus on single-level designs. Buyers looking to downsize will find some ramblers that range in size from 2,200 to 2,500 square feet.
Nearly all the homesites back to a protected greenspace, and the builder is offering several outdoor-living options including covered patios and fireplaces.
“The initial purchasers have been a mix of empty-nesters and retirees,” says Lewis. “A community like Canterwood appeals to a wide spectrum of lifestyles with the 24-hour security, recreation opportunities and a gorgeous streetscape that keeps values high.”
