WENATCHEE – The top law enforcement officer of Winthrop, a small town in north-central Washington that attracts tourists with its Old West trappings, was disciplined in January for returning to duty after drinking alcohol twice last summer.

The Wenatchee World says public records show Marshal David Dahlstrom spent a week off the job without pay. He was also reprimanded last May for buying beer after work and carrying it home in the town’s patrol car.

Mayor Dave Acheson says the marshal was not on call and had been off duty in August when he responded to two complaints. The mayor said coming on duty after drinking violates policies, but he didn’t feel it warranted dismissal.

Dahlstrom says he had a drink with his dinner before he was called out. He says it was an isolated incident and hasn’t happened since.
