The National Weather Service has issued a snow advisory for the Cascade Mountains in King, Snohomish, Pierce and Lewis counties.

Accumulations of 6 to 11 inches are expected between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 4 a.m. Wednesday at Stevens Pass, Snoqualmie Pass, Paradise at Mount Rainier and other locations.

The NWS says “steady snow will develop late [Tuesday] afternoon before tapering off by sunrise Wednesday … There is a chance that the snow could change over to light freezing rain in Snoqualmie Pass early Wednesday.”

Snow will be in the 3,000- to 4,000-foot range; lower in the passes.

Drivers should expect reduced visibility and slippery roads, and take precautions.

Numerous ski areas are open in the Pacific Northwest, and several of them have new features this year.
