Walks in Seattle and throughout Washington this weekend raised $2.2 million for the Greater Northwest Chapter of the National MS Society.

About 5,000 people participated in Seattle’s walk Sunday, which began and ended at Edmundson Pavilion and wound four miles through the University of Washington UW campus and surrounding neighborhoods. Walks in seven other communities were held on Saturday.

The money will be used to support services and programs for people living with multiple sclerosis, as well as research into the neurological disease’s causes and potential treatments.
