A 48-year-old Renton man, who was driving home from downtown Seattle on Thursday, suffered broken ribs and a ruptured spleen in a multivehicle crash that snarled local traffic for hours.
Though the State Patrol initially reported that no one was seriously injured in the collision — which was caused by the driver of a semi truck traveling too fast for road conditions — Ridrigquez Clifton was seriously hurt and is now a patient in the intensive-care unit at Harborview Medical Center, said his mother, Verlee Clifton.
A hospital nursing supervisor on Friday confirmed that Ridrigquez Clifton is a patient in the ICU.
Verlee Clifton said doctors pumped a pint of blood from her son’s stomach and removed his spleen. He was injured when his vehicle was struck by the semi truck as it rolled over in a crash near the Interstate 90 interchange that closed all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 for two hours.
