Two people were shot in downtown Seattle on Saturday night after a fight that erupted in gunfire. One suspect was in custody, but Seattle police were searching for at least one other suspect.

At around 8:40 p.m., two men, ages 18 and 22 years old, were shot in two locations near Eighth Avenue and Pine Street. One man was reportedly shot in the leg three times.

Both victims were taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, said Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kapel.

Officers quickly tracked a suspect to a parking lot on Boren Avenue near Pike Street and arrested him. It appears there was a second shooter who is at large, said Kapel.

The suspect was taken back to the original scene, where several witnesses, including an off-duty Lacey police officer, reported seeing the shooting, according to dispatchers.

One victim was found near the Paramount Theater at Ninth Avenue and Pine Street.

It’s unclear why the fight broke out, but Kapel said two groups of men were “posturing” on streets crowded with New Years revelers. KING-TV reported via Twitter that witnesses saw a man firing “firing wildly” at two other men.
