A weekend closure of the Montlake Bridge and an overnight closure of Interstate 5 in South Seattle will force weekend detours.

The Montlake Bridge will close to vehicles from 6 a.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday to allow three sections of the steel decks to be replaced. The walk-bike lane on the western flank of the drawspan will remain open.

Also, as many as four lanes of northbound I-5 will close from 10:30 p.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Sunday, from the Tukwila/Highway 599 exit to Interstate 90, for maintenance work on overhead signs. For a half-hour, from 2 to 2:30 a.m. Sunday, remaining traffic will be diverted to the Madison/James exit and re-enter northbound I-5 just beyond Madison Street.

In Tukwila, a lane of southbound Highway 599 will close from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday for guardrail replacement.

The biggest news is what won’t happen yet — a severe lane reduction to replace expansion joints in Marysville on three southbound I-5 bridges. It is postponed until March 4 because of this weekend’s rainy forecast.
