The Washington State Patrol is asking for information from any witnesses to this morning’s rollover crash on southbound Interstate 5, which injured the driver of a van.

The patrol said in a statement the van was changing lanes about 4:45 a.m. when it struck the rear end of a semi before slamming into a barrier and rolling over. The driver of the semi did not stop, authorities said.

The van’s driver, in his 60s, was taken to Harborview Medical Center in stable condition after the Seattle Fire Department rescued him from inside the 2001 Chrysler Town and Country van, authorities said. He suffered a broken arm and possibly other injuries, according to the State Patrol.

The crash blocked all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in downtown Seattle near Seneca Street before the route reopened about 6 a.m.

The State Patrol is seeking any witnesses to the collision along with any identifying information for the semi. Contact the Patrol’s tip line at 425-401-7741.
