A crash on Interstate 5 at the interchange with Highway 599 snarled the commute Thursday morning.
A semitruck overturned just after 5 a.m. Thursday on northbound Interstate 5 near the interchange with Highway 599, causing a traffic snarl that extended past 8 miles at one point.
The truck driver had minor injuries, including a cut to his arm, said State Patrol Trooper Clark Jones.
An expansion joint on I-5 had minor damage and was repaired as the accident was cleared, said Tom Pierce, a spokesman for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). It’s not clear if the crash caused the damage, Pierce said.
All lanes of Interstate 5 were open again about 8:15 a.m., but the backup continued for most of the morning commute.
WSDOT suggests taking Highway 167 to Highway 900 to I-5; Highway 99 to the Boeing Access Road; or Highway 516 to 99.
“We got most of (the packages) over onto the shoulder,” but some were caught underneath the tractor trailer, Jones said.
